About

Sports Strategies is a marketing consulting agency which specializes in developing promotional programs that help our clients leverage the public’s passion for sports and entertainment.

Founded in 2000, Sports Strategies has built a strong reputation of delivering successful results through creative planning and flawless execution. Led by agency president Chris Codington’s 20+ years in the sports marketing industry, Sports Strategies blends unique agency insight, senior level executive account management and an extensive network of resources to provide clients with the expertise necessary to create cost effective results.

In order to maintain objectivity for our clients, we do not represent any properties or sell sponsorships. We exclusively work on behalf of our corporate partners to help determine if, where and how you can use sports and entertainment marketing to build your brand. We will listen to your needs, learn your business and provide options that will meet or exceed your goals.

With thousands of teams, events, venues, athletes, broadcasts, publications and more out there, we’re often asked: “What would work for us?” We look forward to discussing how we can help you determine which opportunities are the right ones for your brand and what is the best way to leverage them to positively impact your bottom line.

About Chris Codington

Sports Strategies is led by agency founder and President, Chris Codington.  With over 20 years in the industry, Codington has successfully worked on both the property side and corporate side of the sponsorship table and uses this experience to deliver valuable insight to our clients.

Codington began his career designing and selling sponsorships while representing various properties including multiple PGA Tour events, NCAA Athletics, sports radio programming, extreme sports events as well as fairs and festivals .  It was during this tenure that he learned the value corporate entities could receive through their sponsorships, the dynamics involved in structuring the deals and the difference in results between sponsors who “did it right” versus those who didn’t.

After representing properties for several years, Codington was recruited to sports marketing start-up, Fantastic Sports.  Hired as the company’s initial full time employee, Codington played an integral role in the success of Fantastic Sports and its growth from a small boutique firm to a nationally recognized agency consisting of independently operating sports marketing, incentive travel and premium merchandise divisions.  Codington’s role grew within the company and ultimately he was named Divisional President of the sports marketing and incentive travel business units of the agency. During his time at Fantastic Sports, Codington worked with industry leaders such as Unilever, ConAgra Foods, Gillette, Campbell’s Soups, Unocal 76, MCI Communications and others in strategically designing, negotiating, managing and activating marquee sponsorships with properties including the Olympics, NFL, PGA, Major League Baseball, NBA, NASCAR and most major sports entities.  Ultimately, Fantastic Sports’ success and growth made it a target for acquisition and the agency was purchased by Lighthouse Holdings.

In 2000, Codington left the Lighthouse Holdings group to found Sports Strategies and develop programming for corporate clients to leverage the world of sports.  Since the agency’s inception, Codington has continued to grow his expertise and network while creating and executing programs for clients including Dr Pepper, Del Monte, Logitech, Universal Pictures, Warner Home Entertainment, C.F. Sauer and Culligan.  Known for his hands-on entrepreneurial approach, Codington thrives on flawless execution and delivering value to his clients.
